The shown ping times do not really affect anything; you should not think about them too much. When rendering, the client is put into background and doesn't get frequent CPU cycles, thus the ping increases. This is just normal.

It is the time for the client to reply back to the server; it cannot be compared to the PING system command. It has no influence on rendering at all.

Take a look at the renderer's output filters in the renderer management; there you can react to certain words.

The updater won't work w/o proper permissions, as it needs to write to the application directory. Normal user accounts usually cannot do this.
