Evaluating scenes to get output file names and pathes

Postby pechart » 21 Dec 2011, 10:41

Hi!

Is it possible to evaluate a maya scene before submitting it to the server? I'd really really like to have the ability to check the rendered images fast. By now you always need to browse to the folder by hand, because no data regarding this is parsed to the server. I will look into this by myself, but any help is appreciated. I'm a little bit afraid that i will run into serious problems when it comes to resolving the paths for the images, espescially render elements from vray.

For me that's the most important feature Royal Render offers, btw.

Can you say anything on this Topic? It would be really helpfull to pass the Output file path to RenderPal correctly. This would offer so many more possibilities, like Frame checking etc. It's not important for passes and stuff, just for the main sequence.

BTW, I'm talking about Maya with VRay here ;)

Thanks!

While I don't fully understand what exactly you want to achieve, you should wait for the next release of RenderPal; a look at https://www.facebook.com/RenderPal gives a first glimpse of some of its new features.

I'll check that and trink about a better explanation ;)

Thanks for the fast Feedback!

Looks pretty neat, looking forward to give it a try!

I'll try to explain what I want:

If you submit a Job from Maya/VRay to RenderPal with the Maya submitter script the file output path doesn't get passed to RenderPal always correctly or even not at all. This means. that you can't do any framechecking or open the output files with a right click from within RenderPal.

So, what we need is a working way to resolve the correct output path, even when Maya-Tokens like <Scene>, <Layer> or <Camera> are used. So we either need to resolve the tokens "by hand" in the submitter script or let Maya do this for us and return the name and path of the rendered output files from the renderlog to RenderPal somehow. Is this understandable? Maybe you already do this in 2.8? If there's something like this planned it would be nice to know, because otherwise I'd start to write my own submitter script.
Or maybe I'm just missing something :)

So your request is basically about the Maya submitter, not RenderPal directly?

Yep, if it can be solved there.
The other Option would be to analyze the Output log and check, where files get written.

Just to clarify this:

We need a working way to get the output paths of the rendered frames passed from Maya/Vray to RenderPal then everything should be fine.

Are you working on this already? Or am I missing something?

Or should I write my own submitter?

We'll see what we can do, but can't promise anything.
