Render frames spread throughout the sequence first

Post by pechart » 28 Mar 2013, 18:17

Hi again!

A nice Feature would be to render several Frames of the sequence first. For example if we have a 100 Frame sequence first render Frame 1, 25, 50, 75 and 100. This way we could get a more reliable remaining time.
And we can check some Frames quickly to see, if a render works as expected. You often have the first/last Frames black, so inbetween Frames could really help here.

Thanks!

That feature is already there; you can set the chunk dispatching in the net job to "evenly distributed", which should pretty much do what you want.

Well, actually this isn't quite what I wanted. It should only do some (maybe 5) preview frames/chunks evenly distributed and then jump back to the start and continue from there. Is this possible?

No. You could play with chunk priorities to achieve this "effect".

Just another question regarding this. Is it possible to submit jobs from an external application like Maya with the order set to "evenly distributed" by default? Thanks!

Do you mean whether this is possible in general or using the submitter?

You need to add -nj_dispatchorder 2 to the additional commands when submitting.
