Ping Values explanation in Remote Controller

Post by swamiforlife » 20 Aug 2019, 08:47

I wanted to know how the ping values shown for each client in the Remote controller calculated or what they mean?
Because when i ping from the sever to the client or from the client to the server when i am rendering i get a 1ms ping between the 2.
But in the remote controller it shows the ping times like 200ms, or 300ms, in short much larger numbers.
Why is that?
Also will high ping times slow down rendering?

It is the time for the client to reply back to the server; it cannot be compared to the PING system command. It has no influence on rendering at all.

Would high ping times effect the loading of the scenes and its assets?
Also what could be the reason for the times to increase significantly sometimes and get back to normal sometimes?

The shown ping times do not really affect anything; you should not think about them too much. When rendering, the client is put into background and doesn't get frequent CPU cycles, thus the ping increases. This is just normal.
